Who Is The Galaxy For ?

Not so long ago, The Galaxy was humbled and stoked when Mix Mag gave us a shout-out (check it out here: Mix Mag Feature).

It got us thinking – about who we are, who we want in our space, and the vibe we’re building here. So here’s a heads up about what we’re about and who’s welcome to join us on the dance floor.

We’ve taken a leaf from our mates at HAVEN INTL to set the tone:

RESPECT THE VENUE - BE DISCREET.

DON’T FORGET THE VENUE ARE THERE TO HELP IF YOU NEED. THEY WILL GIVE YOU WATER, FOOD AND A PLACE TO GET YOURSELF TOGETHER AGAIN SO YOU CAN KEEP DANCING.

RESPECT EACH OTHER - WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ANY RACISM, SEXISM, HOMOPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA, AGEISM, CLASSISM OR ANY OTHER FORMS OF PREJUDICE. THE SAME GOES FOR ANY CREEPY, ABUSIVE OR VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR, UNWANTED TOUCHING OR HARASSMENT. LET THE BAR OR HAVEN KNOW IF YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE NEEDS HELP.

THE DANCE FLOOR IS FOR DANCING. IF YOU WANT TO STAND YARNING TO THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU GO OUTSIDE. IF YOU WANT TO STAND LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE GO OUTSIDE. IF YOU WANT TO STAND LOOKING AT THE DJ, UNLESS YOU ARE IN A TRANSCENDENTAL STATE, GO OUTSIDE. RESPECT YOUR FELLOW DANCERS BY MOVING WITH CARE THROUGH THE DANCE FLOOR.

RESPECT THE DJ - NO REQUESTS AND NO DRINKS AROUND THE BOOTH.

NO PHOTOS - BE IN THE MOMENT AND RESPECT PEOPLES PRIVACY.

We know it might sound a bit much for some – if that’s you, no worries, there’s other places for you. This isn’t it. We like it loud, we like it lively, but we don’t like hassle. Our security prefers dancing and having a yarn, not dealing with dickheads. Our people want to move to the beat without being shoved, pushed, or groped. If you’re that guy filming the floor while standing in a circle with your mates, honestly, head somewhere else.

So, who is this place for?

Here’s my favourite list (and trust me, we’re always adding to it!):

Kind people – everyday legends looking for a night to dance, to let go, to catch their breath before diving back into life.

Creative minds, activists, adventurers, thinkers and dreamers – the ones who keep the conversations going, who bring the spark that makes this place special.

Music lovers – the ones who know what goes into crafting an event, who come for the tunes, the vibe, the work that goes into making it all happen.

Open-minded, curious, considerate people – the kind who want to dance in a room full of likeminded souls.

If you’re reading this and thinking “bit woke for me,” that’s cool. There’s plenty of spots out there for you – just not this one.

So if you’re keen to come party at The Galaxy, make sure you know what we’re about. We’re not the flashest place in town (although the sound system’s pretty bloody good and the music is top notch!). If you’re after fancy fit-outs and $30 cocktails, hit those bars with the gold taps. If you’re after $10 double shots, killer tunes and an awesome crowd? Well, you know where to find us.
