After hearing Drum & Bass for the first time on live mixtapes of UK raves in the late ’90s, Chetty D was immediately captivated. Just a year later, he witnessed Goldie perform live in his hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand—an experience that solidified his love for the genre. Not long after, in 2001, he picked up the decks himself, diving headfirst into the music and culture that had already taken a firm grip on his soul. Now, after time away from the scene, Chetty D is back on the circuit with a renewed passion and an undying love for the music.
A true breakbeat enthusiast, Chetty D has witnessed the evolution of the Drum & Bass scene—from its early days, through its golden years, and into its current form. Throughout, he has remained a bold ambassador for jungle music, consistently pushing the foundation sound with pride and purpose. His formidable tune selections are not just for the heads—Chetty D is a real journeyman, someone who absolutely thrives mixing on the fly and bringing raw energy to every set.
Versatility is a cornerstone of his style. Chetty D can play anywhere on the Drum & Bass spectrum—from the smoothest liquid rollers to the heaviest, amen-fuelled tear-outs. No matter the vibe, his sets are always a journey through breakbeats and basslines, crafted with depth, knowledge, and instinct.
Chetty D has supported some of the biggest names in the game, including:
Doc Scott
Dillinja
Teebee & Calyx
Total Science
Mampi Swift
He brings a wealth of knowledge to every performance, gained from years of dedication to the scene. A true junglist through and through, Chetty D lives by a simple ethos:
“It’s called Drum and Bass for a reason!”
DJ Highlights
Chetty D’s career has been filled with unforgettable moments, but a few stand out as defining highlights:
Total Science asking to go back-to-back with him — a huge personal and professional moment of recognition.
Closing down the night for Dillinja, going B2B with Gwarden, after being off the circuit for some time — “we absolutely smashed it!”
A flip-of-a-coin favourite moment: either the time his mum came up on stage during his set for Doc Scott, or when she stood front row on New Year’s Eve, watching proudly as he handed over the reins to Mampi Swift, playing to a sold-out crowd.
“I have every musical bone in my body from her—she was a music teacher—so it was an absolute honour to have her there.”
These moments speak to not just Chetty D’s talent behind the decks, but the deep emotional connection he has to music and the community it builds.
