When we first saw Mr Meaty Boy on the decks, pigtails going crazy as she ripped out a banger of a set, we fell in love. We met her, fell in love again. Cheeky, fun, energetic, kind, sharp, smart. Leading out an epic project Te Wa, a project that will provide space and inspiration in the Christchurch arst landscape into the future.

🎧 DJ Profile: Mr Meaty Boy
Bea—known on decks as Mr Meaty Boy—is a hyper-masculine persona with a mischievous edge. A multidisciplinary artist of Ngāti Porou and Ngāpuhi whakapapa, Bea operates at the powerful intersection of music, theatre, education, and nightlife. The name “Mr Meaty Boy” was originally coined as a satirical poke at the male-dominated DJ landscape—and nods cheekily to the burger joint from the cult film Eagle vs Shark
🌀 The Sound & Style
A master of alternative/experimental club, Mr Meaty Boy blends elements of rave-era techno, booty bass, deconstructed club, ghetto-tech, and cerebral breaks.
They describe their own sound as “techno, but like, brown or BIPOC or queer peoples have made the music”—a reflection of embodied identity within each track vice.com.
Influences include icons like Erykah Badu, Tirzah, and Rick Rubin—musicians and producers who defy genre boundaries
🌍 Roots & Venues
Born out of Wellington's creative energy, Bea later migrated to Christchurch, which they describe as their “music home”—a city of both darkness and creative light
They regularly play in Christchurch’s underground nocturnal scenes and have performed at iconic events such as Flux (e.g. Meaty Boy Monday nights with intimate B2B sets)

Cofounder and educator behind Routine Magic, a DJ programme made in collaboration with MAINZ, designed for Māori, Pasifika, BIPOC, and queer artists.
The pilot course sparked strong demand and visibility, with the next round scheduled for October in Christchurch vice.com.
